The Butter Battle Book
As part of our author study on Dr. Seuss, Gan Ilanot heard the story of The Butter Battle this morning. We used our brains to think about whether or not eating bread with the butter side down was worthy of a battle? We ate bread with butter for snack, following the story and conversation. The students were encouraged to sit next to someone that they don't normally sit next to, and give a compliment. Some people ate with the butter side up and some with the butter side down, some people don't eat bread at all and others asked for cream cheese. They all ate differently, but the point is that we're all friends and we should respect each other's opinions. The analogy was made to fighting over the ball at recess time, and now the children understand that we all play differently, but we all enjoy playing together. "Battling" keeps the fight going, and problem solving helps us get along better.
